Does the job!, October 21, 2009 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Mongoose Rubberized Hardshell Bicycle Helmet (Youth) (Sports) I bought this helmet for my 7 year old stepson as part of his birthday present along with a new Mongoose bike. We've used it for 3 months.
He loves the helmet (and the bike!). It fits his head properly and is simple to adjust. I can't say it's a sharp looker...it's a flat black color which I don't think is represented well in the photos. I thought it was going to be a dark olive drab color. Not a big deal. He likes it and that's what matters!
The helmet has held up to being thrown on cement, rolled in the grass, and used to smash acorns and shows no noticeable damage or mars. A good sign in a bike helmet for your child!

It is extremely rugged, well padded, and fits my son's head very well at 5 years old (he has a pretty good size head for a 5 year old) and will probably last him into his teen years. This helmet seems like it might be useable for more than just biking, as it is so rugged and covers more area of the head than most "bike" helmets. But I would check with the manufacturer before using for other activities such as rollerblading and skateboarding. My son really likes his helmet and wearing it when riding his bike, which makes things easy on us getting him ready to ride.
